“Heart whispers” is a reflective short documentary exploring my journey through adolescence, developing my own voice, and struggling to belong as a trans man — a story about rebirth, self-alignment, and finding community. Where once my possible future body existed only in my imagination, I show a world in which manifestation is real. I aimed to make “Heart whispers” a non-medicalized trans story, straying away from the tendency of mainstream media’s trans representations to obsess over the body and its medical changes.
Although I recognize this trend as an attempt to mediate, connect, and gain proximity to trans folks, this invasive form of representation fetishizes and oppresses the trans body. My film’s approach instead reflects and connects the viewer to the trans experience by communicating inner transformation, investigating the discovery that full disclosure of oneself within the closeness of community offers a safe space to be seen. Held against the backdrop of our capacity to experience both heaven and hell in one lifetime, “Heart whispers” paints a simple picture that says change is possible. In fact, change is inevitable. Once you learn to accept yourself, home becomes a place you carry with you. Surrender to your heart’s voice, because it’s always whispering.
